Breaking Bread the Musical

Breaking Bread: The Musical - A Showcase Performance acknowledges the lives and spirits of Ukrainians who endured the Holodomor, the man-made famine that ravaged Ukraine in 1932-33. Join us in the first public performances of the musical developed by Myron Genyk (Music & Lyrics) and Lesia Chytra (Book) loosely based on the story of Lesia's grandmother, a Holodomor survivor.

With music based on Ukrainian folk elements, dance, and storytelling that brings this darkest part of Ukrainian history to life, Breaking Bread tells the story of Nadia, a young woman in 1930s Ukraine who is trying to find her place in the world, and where her definitions of hope and freedom are challenged by her community as well as outside forces.
